Being a human is quite complex when you stop and think about it isn’t it? Why can’t it be as simple as being a cat? Cats get to be hugged, fed and get insanely happy when a silver foil ball pasts their noses. But then I don’t think cats have to worry about if the Tomcat down the road fancies them. It is a Tomcat, we know the answer. As a cat their life pattern, unless changed by us humans, doesn’t really change much. They don’t have to grow, learn or evolve much over their lifetime. The same silver foil ball is the same amount of excitement to them as a kitten and its the same delight 10 to 15 years later. They just become a little bit less arsed to put their furry paw out and pat it.
Us humans don’t have it that easy. We not only have to navigate the whole growing from baby to an adult thing but also the body sprouting hairs from different places, hormones creating havoc and spots. Oh, I remember the spots. But then heaped on top of all of that is the whole love, rejection, lust, heartbreak, marriage, parenting, death…..the list is long and the possibility to grow, evolve and learn from it all is utterly endless.
The person I was as a teen is totally different to the person I was when I got my first job or had my first, second, hundredth relationship. If you sit and think about all the different variables it could certainly hurt the brain. But there is one thing that is constant in your whole timeline. There is one secret that you’re not told, or at least not told enough.
At any point in your life
you are good enough
Just stop and read that again
I was good enough as a young adult as much as I am good enough now.
All these things we learn from having our heart broken a million times to fall in love a million times aren’t like grades and exams at school. You don’t need to pass the ‘you’ve been dumped twice’ exam to be good enough for the third relationship. You don’t have to learn certain lessons to be good enough.
Maybe you have a friend you often think that if they just tried a little bit harder with this or that ……..No stop. Maybe they have accepted themselves as they are. Maybe they are at their level of happy. Yes, it might be a different level to your level but that doesn’t make your level any better or their level better. Both of you, at your different levels, is good enough.
The whole thing about being good enough is accepting you. Right now. Not when you get the next promotion. Not when you get the next snazzy car. Not when you get the perfect partner. But now, as you are. Stop wasting time giving yourself a hard time for not having that promotion yet, that car yet, that perfect person to love you and then you might think yourself good enough. Instead, start praising yourself for what you are right now. For what you are evolving into from your experiences and learning.
Life is about the journey, the now, not the destination.
